About Counter Fin Counter Fin is a Newark-based social impact firm helping workers navigate disability and leave benefits so they don’t lose everything when work stops. We combine lived experience, technology, and human support to guide people through SSDI, TDI, FLI, and related claims. We are now expanding our network of insurance and benefits professionals to help clients protect income and manage risk alongside their public benefits.
The Opportunity This role is ideal for a licensed insurance or benefits professional who wants uncapped earning potential, flexibility, and the ability to build a book of socially impactful business. As a 1099 Insurance Broker / Benefits Partner, you are an independent contractor.
What You’ll Do
• Advise workers and families on income protection, supplemental benefits, and related insurance options aligned with their disability and leave situations.
• Educate clients on how private coverage (e.g., disability, life, supplemental health) interacts with SSDI, TDI, FLI, and employer benefits.
• Conduct virtual or in-person consultations, needs analyses, and policy reviews. • Recommend and place appropriate products through your appointed carriers, in line with all licensing and compliance requirements.
• Build and manage your own pipeline, including follow-ups, renewals, and cross-sell opportunities.
• Collaborate with Counter Fin on joint webinars, workshops, and referral programs focused on financial resilience.
How You’re Paid
• You will be paid via a very favorable commissions on policies you place, according to your carrier/GA contracts.
• As a 1099 independent contractor, you are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and benefits
• Any bonuses, overrides, or profit-sharing (if applicable) will be outlined in a separate independent contractor agreement.
Who You Are
• Licensed insurance producer/broker (life, health, or appropriate lines) in states you serve.
• Experience, but not necessary to have experience with disability, leave, or income protection products is a plus.
• Comfortable working as a self-directed 1099 contractor, managing your own business, schedule, and prospecting.
• Strong communicator who can explain complex topics in simple, empathetic language.
• Mission-aligned and interested in financial justice, disability rights, or worker advocacy.
