Counter was built because the system meant to support people during disability and leave doesn’t work the way it should.
In 2021, I lost the ability to walk and had to file for disability myself. Despite qualifying for benefits, the process was slow, confusing, and financially destabilizing. There was no single place to understand what came next, how long things would take, or how to stay financially afloat while waiting.
What I experienced wasn’t an edge case. It’s the reality for millions of people every year—and for the employers, insurers, and partners trying to support them with outdated tools and fragmented systems.
We built Counter to change that. Not by replacing existing programs or insurance, but by creating modern infrastructure around them. Infrastructure that brings clarity to the process, improves outcomes, and helps people stay financially stable during life’s most disruptive moments.
Counter is designed to serve individuals and families first—while also giving organizations the visibility, efficiency, and trust they need to operate at scale.
We believe the safety net should actually feel supportive. That’s what we’re building.
